My guest today is here to talk salary cap, the evolution of hockey and the play-in round of the NHL playoffs. He grew up and learned the game of hockey in Mississauga, Ontario. Although his playing career ended after high school, he continues to follow hockey closer than most. His knowledge of the game and everything that happens behind the scenes is impressive. He’s been living and teaching in Hong Kong for the last 7 years, is actively involved in Hong Kong’s ball hockey league and recently captained team Hong Kong at the Asian Ball Hockey Championships. My guest today is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He’s the current USA Hockey Coach-in-Chief for the State of Montana. He has experience coaching both nationally & internationally at the youth, high school, junior, collegiate, & national team levels. My guest today is from beautiful British Columbia. He played eleven seasons in the NHL for the Colorado Rockies, New York Rangers and a brief stint in Los Angeles with the Kings. He was the captain of the Rangers for five seasons, a five time NHL All-Star, Memorial Cup Champion and MVP, WHL Player of the Year, twice suited up for Team Canada and was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame. He’s currently working with the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey and helping develop hockey across Asia. He is easily the biggest hitter in Hong Kong’s hockey world, both literally and figuratively. My guest today vient de La Belle Province, Quebec, Canada. He’s had an amazing hockey career and an incredibly inspiring journey through life. He played 12 years of professional hockey in six different leagues, including 125 games in the AHL. He was an ECHL All-Star, in 2002 led the QMJHL with 596 penalty minutes and in 2013 won a championship in Slovenia. He’s now in Indianapolis working at the Center of Excellence as a success coach, coaching the U13 AAA Tri-State Spartans and he’s a mental health advocate. His voice and his message are of utmost importance. He’s one of the hardest working hockey players I’ve ever watched and a fan favourite everywhere he’s played. My guest today is from beautiful Scarborough, Ontario. After finishing law school, he moved to Beijing to kick off his business career. He eventually joined a silicon valley law firm and was then named partner at New York firm, Baker McKenzie. He went on to lead a private equity fund and now continues doing projects between Beijing and New York. Today, we are here to talk about his love for hockey and more importantly, the song he wrote in 1993 about the legendary voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Joe Bowen. My special guest today is from beautiful Nepean Ontario. He spent 20 years playing pro hockey all over the world including five different NHL and AHL teams, with stops in the East Coast League, IHL, CHL and a handful of European leagues. He twice led the AHL in scoring, was an All-star three times, a Calder Cup Champion, a Finnish League Champion and just last year was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame. He’s known as an intense competitor with an incredible desire to score goals. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, Hall of Famer, Brad “Shooter” Smyth.
My special guest today is from one of my favourite towns on the planet, Antigonish Nova Scotia. Known for it’s hospitality, the Highland Games, and St. F X University, the Antigonish area has also produced some amazing athletes. In my opinion, he took on the hardest position in all of team sports, a hockey enforcer. His career has seen him play for fourteen professional teams, he was an AHL All-Star, led the league in penalty minutes multiple times is the most penalised player in professional hockey history and fought the toughest players to ever put on a pair skates. Like most enforcers, he was also a fan favourite who was always well respected and admired by his teammates. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, my friend, Dennis Bonvie.
My special guest today is from a place close to my heart, beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003. He’s played in 6 Professional Hockey leagues throughout his career which has seen him lace’em up all over the world. He’s also been a winner, racking up an Under 18 Gold Medal with Team Canada, a World Junior Championship Gold and Silver, a Finnish League Championship and in 2019 an EIHL Championship in Cardiff. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, Stephen Dixon.
My special guest today is from beautiful Richmond, British Columbia. She had two great seasons with the Pacific Steelers of the JWHL, where she put up a point a game. She then went on to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies for four fantastic seasons and became the team’s assistant captain in her final season. After completing her degree in Sport Management she then signed with the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays of the CWHL and turned pro at the young age of 22. This past season she won her first WHL championship, was named an All-Star, and also wore an “A “as assistant captain. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, Leah Lum.
My special guest today is from Buffalo Grove Illinois. She’s had an incredible hockey career so far and become one of the most decorated female hockey players on the planet. She’s won 2 NCAA Championships, 5 Four Nations Cup Championships, a U18 World Championship Gold, 4 World Championship Gold medals and one Silver, an Olympic Silver medal, an Olympic All-Star and most recently won a WHL Championship with the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays. She’s been a winner absolutely everywhere she’s been. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, Megan Bozek.
My guest today grew up in beautiful Victoria, Canada. He’s played 8 seasons professionally across multiple continents. He was a BCHL MVP and leading scorer, a two-time Hobey Baker Award finalist, NCAA Rookie of the Year and an All-American. He’s currently playing In Beijing in the VHL. Back by popular demand, one of Hong Kong’s great storytellers! However, this time he’s not here to talk about a famous hockey movie. He came by the studio to drop some knowledge and tell the story of the last time there was no Stanley Cup Champion. The year was 1919.
My very special guest today is from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Played his junior career for the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the AJHL before committing to play for the Union College Dutchman, where he enjoyed an incredible three years earning; First Team all American, First Team All star and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award in 2017. He then signed an entry level contract in 2018 with the Calgary Flames. He had two great seasons in the AHL where he was an Assistant Captain and played a handful of games for the Calgary Flames. This past season he signed with the Beijing Kunlun Red star of the KHL. Please welcome to ATP hockey talks, Spencer Foo.
My very special guest today holds a Master of Sc in political sociology from the London School of Economics, a B.A. in international relations from the University of Toronto, and a certificate in Chinese language and culture from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He held various positions at the Canadian International Development Agency between 1988 and 2008, working on programs related to China, Russia, strategic policy and international financial institutions. He’s been posted three times to the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, and from 2011 to 2016, served as Director General of Canada’s official development assistance in Asia. Since August 2016, he has been the Consul General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macau. He also happens to be a huge hockey fan and loves supporting Canadian musicians in the city.
